I work as a custodian at 4:30am, and I really like my job (besides the fact that I have to go to bed so early in order to wake up so early). but the most interesting part of my job isn't seeing all the classrooms and offices in the Harris Fine Arts Center-and don't get me wrong, that is VERY interesting. the most interesting part of working there right now is the fact that I am the only girl on my crew. there are 8 of us who come in at 4:30, and I am the only girl. it's not bad, even though half of them are married. jk, they are all really cool guys and pretty chill to chat with before we start cleaning. but I had a singular experience this past week: I got to be part of a bachelor party that started at 5am.

they guys were joking about it, saying that it is often considered a good bachelor party if it lasts until 5:30, but they had never heard of a bachelor party starting at 5 before. so that was definitely a new experience for all of us. but it was an entirely new experience being part of a bachelor party at all for me. so I was excited.

there were two guys who brought in cookies, and eating sugar early in the morning is always exciting. I really liked Jeff's no bake cookies because he didn't really have half the ingredients, so he made them up. they were no bake cookies, they just never really set. they stayed gooey even after he put them in the refrigerator for a while. and for some reason, the gooey was still yummy. and Josh's cookies are always good. they were actual cookies though, and they set properly and everything.

now on to the explanation of the paper airplane above: the "activity" for the party was folding paper airplanes, coloring them (and perhaps naming them, although I couldn't find a good name for my airplane with just flames on it), and then throwing them from the top of the stairs down into the mezzanine of the HFAC. we had two competitions: accuracy and distance. accuracy dealt with trying to get our planes into a trash bin we set out in the mezzanine. I came in second for that one, with Mark coming the closest. his plane was basically a dart, so he could throw it with some accuracy, and also it was heavy enough it could really go some distance. if I threw my plane just right, it would float for quite some distance, although it ran into the wall when we were going distance, so I came in third for that one. I should have taken Jarom's advice to put some flaps on the back of the wings to keep it up, and it would have been even more like his plane. but it was a fun distraction from work.

I just really thought it was cool that I got to participate in a bachelor party. and at work too! although, the funniest part was probably that Eric, the guy who we were celebrating for, didn't ever show up. I guess he took one more day off then he had originally expected. I guess it was good we figured out it wouldn't be coming in so that we could figure out who would take over his jobs and everything would be cleaned still.

oh, and this happened the week that our supervisor was spending time with her family, so she wasn't around to tell us to get to work earlier. and we all still got everything cleaned in time, so I especially don't feel bad that we took some time before working to throw planes through the mezzanine. it was a good week
