this weekend I did some fun stuff all by myself. my roommates were busy, and I couldn't think of anyone else to ask to go with me, so I just figured I'd have a fun saturday on my own.
The first thing I did this weekend was go to the "Duck Derby" held at the man-made stream along the south hill of campus. I heard it was a lot of fun last year, although I was home in Phoenix so I didn't get a chance to go. I was not going to pass it up this time around! What the "Duck Derby" is, is a rubber ducky race down the stream on the south of campus, and then if your duck wins (which is really all in the luck) you get to go to the finals. also, we got to decorate our ducks before they raced. I drew flames on the side of my duck-indicative of speed, in my mind. Unfortunately, my did not agree. he came in second to last. but that was alright. we also got Jdawg hot dogs, so I ate my hot dog afterwards and felt much better about life. (I was not that upset by his lost, but food makes everything better, even when it's not bad)
Then, I decided to go to the Provo Farmers Market since it was the first week it is open. I have decided I definitely want to support my local farmers and artistic community. there wasn't much by the way of fruits and vegetables yet, because it is still rather early in the year for much to be ripe. but there were a few places selling plants to grow, and definitely a lot of craft tents. I only wish I had room to grow more plants because, now that my tomato plant is showing flowers, and growing huge! I want to grow more things! also, I've started using my basil to eat, and it is delicious. especially on spaghetti squash, although that's the only thing I've put it on thus far, so I can't know it's good on everything else. .. but, anyways, the farmers market. I found out about a free bike service place in Provo, that provides the tools, and teaches you how to fix your own bikes. my roommate Rachel and I are going to take her bike this weekend to see what she needs to do to fix her breaks. and I bought some earrings, and a notebook where the proceeds go to helping build schools all over the world, decorated with artwork from local artists. and I sampled this AMAZING pizza booth. it's cooked in a fire oven, and even with the 2 bites I had, I was definitely in heaven. but I want to share it with someone else, so I waited to buy a pizza-there is only so much I will do on my own, and if I can help it, eating is not one of them. Plus I'd already had a Jdawg and 5 honey sticks. I want to fully (no pun intended) savor the flavor. I'm going to drag someone back to the farmers market next weekend to see what is different, what is the same, and sample some of the food I held off from last time.
also, it was a beautiful day for a bike ride. I am so glad I am feeling better (I had mono there for a while) and could participate in enjoying the weather that a Utah spring offers. in some ways, it is much nicer than Phoenix, you just have to wait longer for it to happen...
