A Namesake Park

The first week we were in Zhongshan we learned that the city we live in is one of the few cities in China that is named after a person. I'm still not entirely sure I understand how, since our namesake is a man, Dr Sun. But he is known as the father of modern China, and in Chinese the country is called Zhong Guo, so I can see how Zhongshan kind of matches that aspect.

Since our city has a namesake there are statues and monuments all around the city. One of those statues happens to be across the street from our school, so Wednesday we decided to climb the stairs to the statue and see what we could find. Firstly, we may have chosen the wrong day to explore since it was raining all day Wednesday. Just Wednesday though. The rest of the week was sunny and great for strolls in a park. Also, we hadn't realized the park extended farther than the huge statue you can see from the road. I hope we can go back there on a drier day and do some more exploring. But here are a few of the pictures I took!
