technology in the classroom

Before college I had not had much experience with technology of any kind in the classroom. My high school had no computers in the classroom, and few projectors available. This (besides being much less expensive) was on purpose so we could focus on the material we were learning itself rather than giving us a show while letting us sit back and not engage daily. At the time I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything, since I didn't know any different. However as I have experienced more and more internet websites for classes, I have found that there are definite benefits to having such things available. For example, last semester, one of my classes mentioned a wikipedia page for the class that explained some of the things we were learning about, and had general formulas and definitions that we had gone over. Unfortunately, it had not been well maintained, and was out of date. But the idea seemed good: it would be an easy way to put up a study guide for tests or extra help for homework, and depending on when it was available, the students could know what to focus on in their learning and daily studying so they could better understand the material I want them to know. Another one of my classes had a website I needed to visit daily to do the homework on, and it was a good place for the teacher to give us more announcements and information that he couldn't, or didn't want to waste class time telling us about. There were also places for us to ask him questions, so if we couldn't make it to office hours, or didn't know where to find his email address, we still had a way to contact him and get our questions answered.
Both of those were websites for my more sciencey classes, which shows me (where my imagination came up with nothing) that even in situations where a lot of writing isn't necessary, there can be benefits to using the technologies that are available to us today in the classroom.
