There are so many things about Utah and college I love that I don't often see the parts I miss until I get home. One of those things is the sun! Actually, with all the...lovely things in Arizona, the sun is basically the best part. It's warm, and bright, and makes me feel amazing-most of the time. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got home, but I also didn't realize how pale I was until I got home either. My family made fun of me non-stop for being so pale! (Even though my mom hates when I get any kind of tan while being a lifeguard) So I didn't realize how much I had missed the sun, but I had also forgotten how much I didn't miss the sun: case in point, my brother's track meet last saturday. I thought I remembered what getting sunburned felt like, but I obviously either didn't or I was too white to have it feel the same. I sat out in the sun absorbing all I could for 3 hours while my brother ran, and I had a distinct sunburn that night! It wasn't even the next day when it showed up, it was definitely that evening (the second day I was in town). But the most annoying part of it all, it didn't actually hurt like a normal sunburn, it only itched. I put some aloe vera on it so it could heal faster, and I think that helped some. By the next day though, my shins were in pain any time something touched them (they were the only part to get sunburned) and I realized that I use my shins a lot more than I ever thought I did. Or Buster uses my shins a lot more than I thought he would, to rub up against, or when we are playing to scratch, or even just to lay on when we are hanging on my bed. Perhaps that is the reason I got over my burned shins faster than I thought I would: I didn't have much of a choice but to deal with the pain they were causing me. I am therefore resolved to wear sunscreen every time I plan on going out for more than 10 minutes at a time for the rest of the summer. It's a good idea always, and it won't stop me from getting tan (lifeguards just do) and it definitely won't stop my hair from going blonde! Which is always my favorite part of the summer. I don't care about the rest of it as much, but I do love becoming a natural almost blonde. :) I guess I'll see the progression if I continue to put up pictures all summer, and anyone who's reading will be able to see the progression of my hair color as well.
