I am no longer depressed. It's been a week since my last post, not because nothing happened, but because enough has happened that I forgot to pot something. I had a water test on friday to make sure I remembered how to do everything for my lifeguarding job. I passed that (there was never really a question if I would or not) and so I went to work on saturday. It was pretty cool meeting the staff I'll be working and seeing what the pool will look like, and just... getting in the pool... Something new about this staff this summer is the evenness of the numbers: we have as many boys as girls. Thinking about all the staffs I've ever been on before, usually there are many more girls that boys, so this will be interesting.
I also did a lot of cleaning this past week. I've gotten rid of more magazines in our house than I realized we had. It was more than a little ridiculous and our recycling bin is really heavy for it. But now we have more room to put the stuff my mom can't get rid of, and perhaps look less cluttered. She's not excited that I want to put her stuff away, because although she doesn't use anything I'm putting away, she would rather have it out and accessible than on a shelf behind chairs she put in front of the bookshelf...
I decided since I now know my schedule for lifeguarding, which is my main job, I can start actually looking and applying for other jobs that won't interfere. Which means that I have already put in three applications for other places: In-n-out, Safeway, and as of yesterday, Target! Kinda cool story with applying at Target. So my sister gets the car to drive to school and where ever else she wants, which means I don't have access to it very often. And for the past week or so my dad has been in and out of the house, so he wasn't home when I decided I wanted to go to Target to apply there. Therefore, since I now have a working bike and I decided I really need the exercise before the summer starts, I rode my bike to Target. It was wicked fun and proved to myself that I am more in shape than I thought since I didn't have to stop and rest while going there or even more difficultly, on the way home. I ended looking it up how far away it is, and it's about 3.5 miles one way. which means I rode 7 miles yesterday!
I'm glad work will start on Saturday because I got so bored being home with just Buster last night, I started reading books out loud to him last night. I was reading Across Five Aprils to Buster out loud and including the different accents of the people in the book. It seems pretty lame to be reading aloud to a dog, but it got me thinking about how I want to read aloud to my children when I have them. I've decided I want an hour a night, or a night a week when we won't turn on the tv at all, and instead read aloud together as a family or read quietly. It'll be awesome and I hope it will focus on the intellectual aspect of life and start good habits for my future kids. But moral of this story is still: I'm glad work will be working soon so I don't have to start finding more creative things to do with Buster that he won't understand at all....
